At DarkHorse IT, we love seeing tech that aligns with our values—privacy, transparency, and putting the user first. That’s why we’ve always had a soft spot for Mozilla, the organization behind Firefox and Thunderbird. They’ve never sold out or sold your data—and now, they’re launching something big: Thundermail and the Thunderbird Pro suite of cloud-based services.
🔐 What’s New with Thunderbird Pro?
This isn’t just another email app—it’s an open-source ecosystem Mozilla is building to compete with Gmail and Office 365. Here’s what they’re rolling out:
📬 Thundermail
A privacy-first email service from Mozilla with no ads, no AI training on your inbox, and no surveillance. You can even use your own domain name.

📅 Thunderbird Appointment
This scheduling tool is still in closed beta, but it will let people book time with you through a simple link—no Google Calendar or Microsoft account required.
🔧 While there’s no public page yet, Mozilla has discussed development on Thunderbird’s blog.
📁 Thunderbird Send
Think “Firefox Send 2.0.” This will allow secure, end-to-end encrypted file sharing. It’s currently in Alpha testing, and while there’s no public landing page yet, the project is being actively developed.
🌐 Devs can keep an eye on Thunderbird’s GitHub page.
🤖 Thunderbird Assist
A privacy-conscious AI assistant built in collaboration with Flower AI, using federated learning and remote private compute. You’ll have to opt in—nothing is turned on by default.
🛠️ The code and repo aren’t public yet, but it’s coming soon.
💡 Why This Matters
Let’s be real: we all use tools from Google and Microsoft because they’re convenient—but they come with serious privacy trade-offs. From reading your inbox to training AI with your content, the big players make money off your data.
Mozilla is taking a stand. With Thunderbird Pro, they’re offering tools that:
✅ Respect your privacy
✅ Use open-source code
✅ Don’t track or sell your data
✅ Offer modern convenience without compromise
And just to be clear: the classic Thunderbird email client will always remain free and open-source. These new services are completely optional.
📢 Want to Try It?
Mozilla is letting people sign up early for Thundermail and will expand access as development continues.
